Creativity starts in your own backyard, and no one understands this better than Kit and Ace – an international clothing retailer who is proud to collaborate with local design businesses to create unique stores that honour local talent.

Kit and Ace, creator of Technical Luxury™ garments opened a new chapter in Australian clothing earlier this year. Comfort and luxury collide in their garments, and those seeking function no longer have to sacrifice design in their beautiful, long-lasting clothing.

Kit and Ace, creator of Technical Luxury™ garments opened a new chapter in Australian clothing earlier this year. Comfort and luxury collide in their garments, and those seeking function no longer have to sacrifice design in their beautiful, long-lasting clothing. However, it is not only the Kit and Ace product that NOMI loves, but their philosophy in embracing the local. Kit and Ace co-founder JJ Wilson explains:

Our approach is organic and based on real connections we’ve made locally. We seek innovative partners that appreciate our brand aesthetic and work with them to design pieces that reflect the local market

“We want the way we enter the market to be authentic, so we make the build-out of our shops a truly collaborative process. Each shop incorporates hyper-local elements, including a supper club table, feature lights, iconic photographs and ‘the wall’ – an in-shop gallery space featuring up-and-coming artists – to create a space that inspires a creative dialogue and reflects the local creative culture.”

Working with NOMI and our furniture designer Tomek Archer was a natural fit when bringing this innovative retailer to Australia, and Wilson explains this harmony: “NOMI’s clean aesthetic mirrors the importance that small details play into building our shop environments”. Creative types now gather in the Surry Hill store around Archer’s interpretation of the supper club table: a custom Dove Table in a Pacific Grey finish. The collaboration demonstrates a perfect unity of design philosophy.

Because Kit and Ace wants its stores to be a destination where local creatives meet and share ideas, when considering upcoming Kit and Ace retail locations, Wilson explains that they look for areas that have an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and art galleries – these creative hubs speak to their brand and what they’re all about. Indeed, the close proximity of the NOMI office and the Kit and Ace store seemed more than a happy coincidence: the emphasis on creativity and the ability for NOMI clients to customise their product and shape their own space and furniture is fundamental to the NOMI philosophy. Each Kit and Ace retail location encourages shoppers to immerse themselves in the luxury of the product while being stimulated by designers, makers and artists within the local market. This idea of honouring inspired local businesses within another business is an unusual concept in Australia, but Wilson explains:

We want to be part of the markets we operate in – that’s what is important to us. Part of that includes making the build-out of our shops a collaborative process, partnering with local vendors, suppliers and collaborators to build real connections with locals. Working with local creatives is part of our brand identity – it’s who we are

Sharing an aligned ethos with the Kit and Ace brand, NOMI was delighted to engage in such a unique partnership and deliver another bespoke product designed with custom style requirements.
